In light of the recent canine respiratory illness outbreak affecting dogs across the United States, we understand the heightened concerns about your furry friends' health. At Puppy Preparatory, we prioritize the well-being of your pets and aim to provide you with essential information and guidance. Understanding the Canine Respiratory Illness:

Symptoms: Keep an eye out for signs such as coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, and difficulty breathing.
Causes: The outbreak is often linked to viruses and bacteria like Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), comprising canine parainfluenza virus, canine adenovirus, and Bordetella bronchiseptica.

Protecting Your Pet:

Vaccination: Ensure your dog is up-to-date on vaccinations including the Canine Influenza Vaccine (separate from standard core vaccinations). Consult your veterinarian for personalized advice based on your dog's lifestyle and health.
Hygiene Practices: Practice good hygiene and disinfect shared toys and equipment regularly.
Avoid Crowded Places: Temporarily avoid crowded areas where dogs gather, opting for smaller playdates or one-on-one training sessions. At Puppy Preparatory, we are continuing to maintain smaller class sizes to reduce the risk of illness spreading.
Isolation of Sick Dogs: If your dog shows signs of illness, isolate them from healthy dogs and seek veterinary attention. If your dog presents any symptoms, you may reschedule your puppy's training with no charge or penalty.

Our Commitment to Your Pet's Health:

At Puppy Preparatory, we take the following measures to promote a safe environment for your dogs stay with us:

Increased Sanitization: Rigorous cleaning and disinfection of toys, bedding, equipment, and common areas.
Requesting Quarantine Prior to Program: We are asking all families to keep their puppies away from other dogs for at least 10 days prior to joining us for Board & Train, Boarding, or Day School.
Proactive Approach: While working with your puppy, our trainers remain aware and proactive about monitoring for any signs of illness. Dogs showing symptoms of any illness are asked to leave and seek veterinary care. If parents are not in a position to immediately pick their dog up, trainers will take every reasonable measure to keep the sick dog completely isolated and seek veterinary care on their behalf.
Flexible Rescheduling: We offer flexible rescheduling options for sessions, understanding that your pet's health is a top priority.

How You Can Help:

Stay informed, have your puppy practice social distancing by avoiding areas with high volumes of dog traffic, wash your hands after interacting with other dogs, and work closely with your veterinarian to protect your furry family members .
